Fall softball season 2015

The Sandia Softball Association is organizing a short, introductory league that will run mid-September through October. If you’re new to Sandia or have just never pulled the trigger to join the league, now is the time. New players of all skill levels are highly encouraged to participate, and the league can help place you on a team.

Games will be played on Tuesdays starting September 15 with 3 games nightly (5:30, 6:30, 7:30). There will be 6 regular season games for each team and then a double-elimination tournament.

For questions about the fall league, contact Scott Roberts (sarober@sandia.gov) or use our recruiting link.

Thank you!

On behalf of the execs, I wanted to send a quick note to say thank you again for making the End of the Season Picnic such a success! The rain held off for a while, and we had a great time!

Congratulations to Charles Ringler for his induction into the SLSA Hall of Fame!

And, to all the award winners, congrats!!
• Sergio Murrieta won the Ernie Overstreet Award,
• Joe Beck won the Willie Williamson Award, and
• Evan Richardson won the Sportsmanship Award

One more announcement I would like to make regarding a little game we played at the picnic. The closest guess of the number of bottlecaps in the jar, and the proud new owner of a windchime which will be made with love by yours truly, is…

Richie Decesare—who was the very first guesser and whose guess was within 6 caps! The magic number was 438, and Richie’s guess was 444. Congrats!

Thank you to all for making this the best softball season yet! Cheers to another great year!

Thanks,
Mellisa

Fall Ball — UPDATE

Coaches,

Thank you to those of you who have responded about fall ball.  From the responses, it does not look like we have enough interest to have a co-ed league.  However, we should have enough to have a men’s league.

Here are the teams that I have heard from:

  • ·         Orange Crush
  • ·         Inglorious Batters
  • ·         Metallurgy Clergy
  • ·         Toxic Sox (only have 5 players)
  • ·         Wild Jokers (only have 7 players)

I would like to have the entire season take place before the end of October.  There are 5 Tuesdays in October, so I envision a regular season where a team plays every team once, then have a single elimination tournament.  This could be accomplished in 4 weeks with 5 teams.

For the teams that are short players, I have two suggestions.  First, I have a list of a few free agents who are interested in finding a team.   Contact me directly if you would like their names.  Secondly, since there will be no co-ed league, there may be some players from those teams interested in playing in the men’s league.  I would encourage the co-ed coaches to send me names and emails of players who would be interested in the men’s league this fall.

Please contact me ASAP if there are any concerns with this plan.  Coaches, please start completing your rosters, SERP release forms, and team dues.  Completed rosters and team dues ($300/team) must be turned into SERP no later than noon on Wednesday, September 25.  Contact me for directly transferring funds via SLFCU.  The first games of the season will be October 1 (baring upcoming weather delays).

Forms can be found on our website:  http://snlsoftball.org/documents/

Best,

Scott A Roberts

Fall Ball 2013

Now that the summer softball season is winding to a close, it’s time to start making plans for a fall season.  Last year was the first time we had a fall season in quite a while, and it was highly successful.  As a direct result of our fall seasons and recruiting efforts in the offseason, we were able to gain an additional four teams for the summer league.  We’re hoping to use this year’s fall season in the same manner.

We understand that the coaches may not be able to field the same teams they usually do in the summer due to player’s schedules.  However, we encourage them to connect with other coaches who might be in similar situations to form a complete team.  We’re also hoping to get some new players who may have started too late for the summer season.  If you’re short a few players, contact Scott.

So here’s what we’re hoping the fall season will look like:

  • 1 co-ed and 1 mens league, with at least 4 teams in each league.  If we can’t get 4 teams, we may consider not holding the season.
  • Mens will play on Tuesday., Co-ed on Wednesdays.
  • Season will start October 1, barring any further delays to the completion of the summer season tournament.
  • Each team will play 3-4 regular season games.
  • The regular season will be followed by a single-elimination tournament.  The tournament should conclude by the end of October.
  • The entire season will be no more than 5 weeks long, with at least 4 games guaranteed.
  • Cost for the season will be $300/team.

In order to plan the season, we need a firm commitment that from coaches that are willing to field a team no later than COB Monday, September 16.  This will allow us time to set the schedule and coordinate the umpires.  To sign up, please email Scott your manager’s name, team name, and league.  More details will follow.

Of course, if you have any questions, please feel free to contact Scott or any of the other members of the executive board.  See you on the field!

–Scott A. Roberts
